The most common way is to get an associate degree from an accredited college or a private institution, which is a two year program. Another option is to complete a certificate course, which typically last for about 24 months, but this program is perfect for individuals who already have experience in the field. Whatever education path you choose, you have to study radiographic techniques, equipment operation, patient care, physiology and anatomy, image production and clinical practice.

    Certification course and obtaining license in radiology technology

    Certificate courses are available through community colleges, online course and some hospitals provide the same. Unlike other programs, hospital programs will have a condition of employment in order to achieve necessary training. Prior to learning radiology programs, an individual might have to possess previous experience in medical field or ethics coursework. The most common coursework programs include pathology, radiobiology, radiation physics and anatomy.

    Radiation technology certification follows a training, which is awarded by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) after clearing the certification course. To maintain the ARRT certification, continuing education is required every two years. Most states demand a technician to have a license but requirements differ with states. Some states consider ARRT exams for giving license to candidates.

    Before enrolling to a training program, make sure that the course is certified by the joint review committee on education in radiologic technology (JRCERT). Desired candidates might also have to take medical office courses as well as to study about how to work in an actual environment.
