  • Pharmacy technicians deal with the improving the patient’s medical experience by assisting them through the pharmacy needs.  It’s an ideal course for students who want to be in the medical field but doesn’t want on-hand patient care.   • Prerequisite needs to enroll to a pharmacy technician program

    Before enrolling in a pharmacy technician program, the desiring applicant should have a high school qualification or equivalent level of diploma is required. Students are also expected to have four GCSEs at grade c or above. Those who have excelled in subjects like chemistry, biology and match will be given some extra priority.

     Most colleges that give the course look for students with great interpersonal communication skills since it’s needed in plenty for the job. The pharmacy technicians will be responsible for dealing with the patient in a shop keeper – customer type relationship as well.

    Producing necessary certificates to show that there are no background health problems and criminal records will be another major prerequisite needs as pharmacy technicians can easily cause a lot of chaos by giving out the wrong medicine to the patient.

    Top Schools offering pharmacy technician programs

    A majority of the community colleges and technical schools provide a certificate and two year program that will prepare the students for a career in the healthcare field.  Some universities also offer the pharmacy technician programs.

    Some of the top schools include Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida; Madonna University in Livonia, MI; and Atlanta Technical College in Atlanta, GA.

    The Miami Dade College in Miami has eight campuses that were identified by the College Community week. It is a four year college and was the second most associate degree producing college in 2011. The students who enroll in the Miami Dade College will be learning in a dedicated medical campus. The students will also be able to complete the certificate program in 2 – 3 semesters including the much required off campus clinical education.

    The Madonna University in Livona on the other hand is a private 4 year university which was ranked 96th among the regional universities in the Midwest. Along with the non – credit medical certificate programs that are offered, the Madonna University also provide a great 50 hour training program for the students.

    Atlanta technical college offers a program which takes seven academic quarters to complete. The student will be given an associate degree of Applied science in Pharmacy technology after completion of the quarters. Completing a diploma from the Atlanta technical college require fewer humanities courses and this can be done in just five semesters compared to the latter one.

    As usual, before deciding about the school to be enrolled on, do run background checks on the campuses facilities and faculty. Being a pharmacy technician is not an easy task and the life of the patients depend heavily on the medicines that are given out. So unless you don’t have proper training from a proper school, it’s hard to get the career up and running.
