Pharmacy Technician Practice Test

  • Taking an exam that will determine potential advancement in one’s career can be nerve-wrecking. The same feeling can be expected among aspiring pharmacy technicians who want to get certified. Fortunately for them, they can take a pharmacy technician practice test online. There are many websites offering practice tests for these healthcare professionals that they can turn to for help if they want to be more prepared for the certification exam.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) Exam

Those who want to become certified pharmacy technicians must complete the Pharmacy Technician Certification Program. Since this is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, the program can be trusted. Candidates who pass the Pharmacy Exam can use the title of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

    Exam Application Requirements

Pharmacy technicians who want to become certified must be 18 years old and above, with a high school diploma or equivalent. Those who didn’t finish a formal training program can still take the exam.

However, the certification boards require eligible candidates for the exams to have a clean criminal record, no drug-related convictions or any felony. They should not have any experience involving the revocation or suspension of any registration or license by a State Board of Pharmacy.

    Types of Exams

Pharmacy technicians can take two major types of certification exams acknowledged nationally. The Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) and the Pharmacy TEchnicina Board (PTCB) administer certification exams for pharmacy techs. Those who get a passing score on either exam are considered a certified pharmacy technician. However, the certification has to be renewed every two years. Renewal is only granted to those who have completed at least 20 hours of continuing education (CE), including pharmacy law.

The exam administered by the PTCB, called the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE), has 90 multiple choice questions. Examinees are only given 110 minutes to complete the test. Most of the questions are focused on the areas of administration and management (accounting for 12% of the test); patient service (accounting for 66% of the test); and medication and inventory control (accounting for 22% of the test).

On the other hand, the ICPT offers an exam called the ExCPT. This can be taken in more than 600 testing centers in the US. Those who pass this test can use the title CPhT. The questions are mostly concentrated on drugs and drug products, regulations and pharmacy technician duties, and pharmaceutical dispensing process. Check out Pharmacy Technicians Courses.

    Why Take Practice Tests

Practice tests are a great way to help pharmacy technician certification applicants determine their strengths and weaknesses in terms of the areas of the exam. Even the PTCB provides practice tests to help applicants prepare for the real exam. These practice tests are perfect for monitoring one’s progress.

There are also unofficial practice tests offered online, which are not endorsed by the ICPT or the PTCB. These tests are based on everyday problem solving issues that certified pharmacy technicians have to deal with at work. These free practice exams online are simply available for educational and informational purposes.
