  • University degree programs in Veterinary medical care includes a bachelor’s degree in vet technology and a doctorate in vet medicine. The bachelor’s degree is appropriate for aspiring candidates who want to become Veterinary technologists, while vet technicians require an associate degree. Veterinarians must have a doctorate degree and such educational programs includes specializations such as animal care. Most of the programs at all levels includes clinical practices and hands on practice. Programs for veterinarians, vet technicians or vet technologists share some basic common course topics in animal physiology, anatomy, animal nutrition, immunology, parasitology and animal diagnostic imaging. Students who take up undergraduate or graduate programs will learn how to nurse and care both small and large animals. Administrating the animals in medication requirements and assist those during surgery procedures are part of this job. Usually all the states require students to take licensing exam or similar exams required by the state.

    Animal anatomy and physiology course

    This is the course which explores the biological systems and anatomical structure of small pets and farm animals.  Students will have to learn about the interrelation and function of skeletal, muscular, nervous and other systems.     Veterinary Medicine Course

    Vet medicine course includes broad range of disorders, diseases and physical trauma treated in vet practice. You will learn the basic standard techniques and treatments for common illness and injuries. Lessons gives you the knowledge about identifying symptoms, selecting necessary treatments, diagnosing diseases and determining prognosis.

    Veterinary Immunology Course

    This course details the role and working of animalimmune systems in fighting diseases and infection. While teaching about immune functioning, the class also teaches about diseases that attacks the immune system directly. The class offers detailed lectures on importance of vaccinating a pet animal and how it helps it with the illness. Students will be taught to identify the reactions of immune system and thereby using it to diagnosis the condition of the pet animal.

    Animal Nutrition Course

    Vet students should be familiar with the metabolism variations and nutritional requirements of various pet animals so that they can make appropriate feeding recommendations and identify malnutrition. Students will also be educated about which all food are good for animals and which can’t easily be digested by them. There are certain foods which can cause allergies and other health problems to animals. The class covers all the related subjects along with the unique nutritional needs of pets suffering from a particular disease.

    Parasitology Course

    This is an important course which familiarizes student with the common bacteria and parasites that affect pet animals. Prospective vets must be aware of different type of parasites, their effect on host animals and their life cycle. Some parasites may affect externally or internally and they transmit diseases which can also be passed from animals to human beings. Students will be given classes on how to identify these parasites and methods to prevent their effect on animals.

    Veterinary Anesthesiology Course

    Vet Anesthesiology course trains students on taking care of the safety and health of every animals undergoing anesthesia procedures. The students have to go through a combination of lectures, coursework and lab work when they are enrolled in the course. They would be taught about calculating the dosage of anesthesia medicine and how to operate anesthetic equipment. Equipments used for anesthesia includes delivery systems and monitoring units for tracking the vital sings of the patients. Students should also have sufficient knowledge in how to handle an emergency situation if any arises.
