How to become a Substance abuse counselor

To become a substance abuse counselor, the candidate should first complete a GED or high school diploma and an entry level education by completing Master’s program from an accredited university. One should first complete a Bachelor’s degree in substance abuse counseling and then complete a supervised clinical practice or internship as part of the graduation prerequisite.
