Optician education, training and certification
To become an optician, the candidate should first complete an entry level education (high school degree or GED equivalent) before enrolling in a two-year associate’s degree in optometric technology or ophthalmic dispensing. Alternatively, one can pursue a one year program in some states. One should complete the degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Opticianary Accreditation and the accredited programs are listed on the National Academy of Opticianry Web site.
